SENIOR CENTER OUTREACH PROGRAMS
We are very proud of our members who volunteer not only at the center but throughout the community. Below are some of the organizations for which they volunteer their time or donations.
PUT BOOKS IN THE HANDS OF CHILDREN WHO NEED THEM.
We collect new or gently used childrens' books for kindergarten through fourth grade children at Bridgeport Elementary School. Our donations have been a big hit with the kids; they really enjoy receiving the books and getting to keep them for their own. Check out the bulletin board and read some of the thank you notes from the kids. The collection box sits under the bulletin board. Thank you to those who have given!
PROJECT LINUS
This local church organization provides afghans for chilren who are seriously ill or traumatized. Our members volunteer to knit or crochet squares for these afghans in association with the "Hearts and Hands" ladies group at Good Shepherds Church who put the squares together to form the afghans. Our participating members are doing a great job for a very good cause. This project currently in need of volunteers to put afghans together.
NEIGHBORHOOD MEALS ON WHEEELS
Some of our members support this great cause by volunteering to help distribute meals to homebound seniors in the Upper Merion Area School District community. Neighborhood Meals on Wheels is available to area residents at a nominal fee. Meals are provided to the elderly, homebound, and those who may be recuperating following a hospital or rehabilitation stay and are in need of this service. Neighborhood Meals on Wheels is in great need of volunteers to pack or deliver meals to local homebound residents. If you can spare one day a month, or sign up to substitute for regular volunteers, it would be much appreciated (typical hours: 9:15am – 10:45am or 10:30am – 11:45am.) Contact Pat or Trudy at Neighborhood Meals on Wheels at 610.265.7051 - Thank you!
