A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Dear Members,
July is upon us and it seems that we only recently turned the calendars to greet 2010! During the past six months, the Upper Merion Senior Service Center has been a beehive of activity. In addition to our regularly scheduled daily activities, we had a very successful Martin Luther King Day of Service in January. In February, members and guests were treated to a wonderful Valentine Hoagie Social featuring the superb performance of our own center's band. March may have seemed a slow month to some, but not to the members who were busily engaged in preparations for April, May, and June.
Our Annual Flea Market and Bake Sale in April was a huge success as was our Volunteer Appreciation Day. Anyone who attended the school district's UPPER MERION AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT ON DISPLAY program had the chance to see and hear our center band performing once again.
FLOWERS THAT BLOOM IN MAY was the theme of the Annual Tea and members and guests were treated to the fantastic variety show presented by Kirk Maurer.
The month of June was as busy as the previous months. In cooperation with the township library and through the efforts of Marianne Hooper, the center hosted a special screening of the documentary NUMBER 4 STREET OF OUR LADY. A few days later, we celebrated the 4th of July with our Second Annual Old-Fashioned Picnic.
None of these events occurred by accident. The hard work of our many volunteers make UMSSC a very special place.
The lazy, hazy days of summer may be upon us, but our members are already not only looking ahead to the activities of the next six months, but also working diligently in planning and organizing them. Undoubtedly, the pages of the calendar for the next six months will turn as quickly as the pages did for January through June.
In September, we have the Community Fair. Would you care to volunteer to serve a few hours at the center's table?
November 2 is Election Day in Pennsylvania. UMSSC will be hosting a Meet the Candidates Day on Monday, October 4. Invitation letters have already been sent to the candidates. Our own center elections will be held in December. Have you consider running for an office or for a position as a board member?
October 16 is the date for our second major fund raising activity for the year---our upscale Craft Fair. Helping hands are always needed to make this affair a real success.
Plans are already being worked on for our December Holiday Luncheon. Can you give us a helping hand here?
Being a member of UMSSC is great; being an active and involved member is fantastic!
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Sincerely,
Frank
